Our staff members are individuals who aspire to provide a quality program of early childhood education within a loving, nurturing environment. Each teacher holds a minimum of an Associate as certification in the Montessori Educational Program. Assistants gain experience, work with, and are supervised by a director or directress. Academic and operational needs of this facility are overseen by the Director, Rosalie Navin.
The Montessori teacher (facilitator) observes and participates in all classroom activities. Lead Teachers are certified through an accredited Montessori teacher preparatory college program and hold an Associate or Bachelor degree in an educational related field of study. The assistant teachers have training and education in early childhood education as well as experience in working with children. These staff positions are supervised by a lead teacher as well as the site director. The job of every staff member is to assure that each child's needs are being met from the perspective of safety and well being.
Our values encourage the aspects of sharing as well as a perception of togetherness. We promote the concepts of positive discipline by verbal reasoning and conflict resolution rather than physical conflict resolution. Our programs believe that by role modeling these aspects of growth with a consistent steady program, the children will gain a sense of responsibility as well as a need to work and play in a cooperative manner with others.
The classroom equipment can be divided into several classifications:
1. The Practical Life materials provide the child an opportunity to practice every day activities such as pouring, shoe tying, etc., while developing concentration and motor skills.
2. The Sensorial materials refine the use of the senses, training the child to differentiate gradations of color, tone, texture, shape, etc.
3. The Mathematics materials provide a visual introduction to numbers while preparing the child to progress to addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
4. The Language materials begin with phonetic sounds of letters and allow the child to progress at his own speed to word construction and eventually to writing and reading.
5. The Art, Geography, Music and Science materials allow the child to expand his range of interests and to develop his creativity and self-expression.
